My First Book Tag! (I Think): The Reader Problems Book Tag

Thank you so much to Holly @ Nut Free Nerd for tagging me in what I think may be my first ever book tag, it not my first tag altogether. Read on, and I hope you enjoy!

1.You have 20,000 books on your TBR. How in the world do you decide what to read next?

A combination of things…mood, cover design and blurb. Sometimes I feel like YA books, other times fantasy and stuff like that. If I’m really stumped, I may well pick it out based on my favourite cover, and a good blurb always increases the likelihood of me picking a book next. (Does that sentence even make sense? Friday-night-brain-fog…)

2.You’re halfway through a book and you’re just not loving it. Do you quit or commit?

Generally I’ll try and commit, but often what happens is I’ll just avoid reading it by going into denial, getting ‘really busy’ and picking up any other book in the surrounding vicinity!

3. The end of the year is coming and you’re so close, but so far away on your Goodreads reading challenge. Do you try to catch up and how?

Um, I don’t actually have Goodreads so have no experience of this, but I guess I’d think about catching up but not bother doing anything about it. I struggle to force myself to read, so I think I would just lower my aims and accept I wasn’t going to achieve my goal.

4. The covers of a series you love do. not. match. How do you cope?

Probably get annoyed, but get over it because I like the books so much.

5. Everyone and their mother love a book you really don’t like. Who do you bond with over shared feelings?

Like Holly, probably blog about it and discover someone else who feels the same way and have a book-slamming comments session!

6. You’re reading a book and you are about to start crying in public. How do you deal?

Generally, I cry at films rather than books. If it did happen though, I would keep my head down and blink rapidly to try and dispel the tears!

7. A sequel of a book you loved just came out, but you’ve forgotten a lot from the prior novel. Will you re-read the book? Skip the sequel? Try to find a synopsis on Goodreads? Cry in frustration?!

Probably either struggle on, or more likely Google “synopsis of x book” to try and recall those finer details.

8. You do not want anyone. ANYONE. Borrowing your books. How do you politely tell people nope when they ask?

This doesn’t tend to happen too often, as the few friends that are likely to want to borrow books I trust implicitly…but I would probably just ‘forget’ to bring it in…multiple times…and hope they get the hint when I keep saying “I’ll bring it in soon, promise!”.

9. You’ve picked up and put down 5 books in the last month. How do you get over your reading slump?

Probably read some chick-lit Jill Mansell, Erica James or Katie Fforde-type stuff…generally it’s feelgood and uplifting, but not so awful I can’t bear to read it. If I like the book, I’ll get hooked, and there you go, I’ll be reading again! (Hopefully.)

10. There are so many new books coming out that you’re dying to read! How many do you actually buy?

Generally I borrow books from the library rather than read them, and if I buy them they’re quite often charity shop finds…I can’t actually remember the last time I bought a book new! I do want to start buying more books soon, but I think I’ll stick to ones I really want, can’t find elsewhere or loved so much I will definitely reread.

11. After you’ve bought the new books you can’t wait to get to, how long do they sit on your shelf before you get to them?

Depends on how many over books I’ve got on the go or lined up at the time, but put it this way…I have a couple of Michael Morpurgo books that have been there for multiple years. Whoops…

Right, here are my nominees/tagees (woop woop, new word!)…
